What is Shield-X?

Challenge: Develop an Industry-Wide Personal Safety Device

Shield-X is a unique challenge that brings together major global miners, equipment manufacturers and innovators to drive the adoption of a solution industry-wide.

The goal of Shield-X is to develop an industry-wide personal safety device for use by people working near potentially dangerous autonomous equipment at a mine site. The device provides an emergency stop, allowing a user to stop nearby equipment if they feel unsafe – for example if a collision is imminent. The device must be able to communicate with any brand of equipment.

    Goldfields Ore-X Challenge

The Ore-X Challenge in 2015 attracted 275 competitors from 20 countries. Participants created ore-grade prediction algorithm that could classify material in a gold mine. The algorithms produced were as accurate as geologists at classifying the data provided and were much faster. For more information, check out the Case Study or Press Release.
